Sample Case Studies for Practicum
A university student: grew up in a Presbyterian background, has a father that is the elder in the Presbyterian church, has good character and his whole family is deemed to be zealous believers. He himself is a reverent and God loving man, and a choir member in his church’s youth choir.
High School student: he is not that diligent in his school studies, doesn’t have any concepts on religion, the father is always busy gambling, he could not find warmth in the family, there is emptiness in his heart, he always smokes, watch movies, shops, and loiter in the cafeteria with his classmates, and he likes to befriend those of the opposite sex.
A soldier by profession: physically fit, loyal to his country, doesn’t believe in the existence of God, self-righteous, able to adept easily to all circumstances, unmarried, does not have strong family concepts, and thinks that death is the end to all things.
An accountant (female) : young and beautiful, good with calculation, a person who greatly values money, dreams of becoming wealthy and rich, enjoys luxurious life, hopes to marry a rich business man, thinks that it’s fine to be in any religion as she would be of the same faith as the husband after she marries.
A factory worker (female): a graduate from secondary school, unmarried, parents think that worshipping more gods will bring more peace, other than having mortuary tablets of their ancestors, there are 3 other different idols at her home. Although her parents fervently worship the idols, she does not have the interest in worshiping the idols. She is interested in music, singing, vacations and folk dance.
Unemployed youth: loves to feast, drink, gamble, dance, and befriend bad companies, does not have self-control in life. Was fired many times due to violating regulations, wants to turn over a new leaf but can’t find the strength to do so.
An exemplary secondary student: interested in learning, short sighted, would spend the whole day studying, obeys school regulations, house rules, quiet and of few words, plans to fulfill his dreams of studying a course that is of great demand in Taiwan university. Other than studying, he had no other wants or interests in life.
